The anticipated opening of Tulum International Airport is predicted to significantly boost foreign tourism. According to Rossy Rodríguez, the North American commercial manager for Amstar DMC, the tourism industry is expected to experience substantial growth in 2025 due to the new airport. Since its inauguration, the airport has broadened its services, positively impacting the region and enhancing the tourist attractions of the Mexican Caribbean.
Despite Tulum's growth, Cancun remains the primary tourist hotspot. During peak seasons, Cancun International Airport sees a surge of up to five thousand passengers every weekend. This airport is particularly important for visitors from the United States, who make up 85% of tourists, followed by those from Canada. The area's popularity extends from Cancun to Tulum, particularly within the all-inclusive travel segment.
Rodríguez also highlighted the rising interest in Costa Mujeres. This previously lesser-known location has gained prominence due to the Cancun-Isla Blanca tourist corridor project. This initiative has facilitated the expansion of services such as tourist circuits, custom VIP itineraries, and corporate meetings. These additions provide more options for tourists seeking a unique experience in the Mexican Caribbean.
