The port of Progreso recently saw one of its busiest days of the year, as two large cruise ships docked, bringing a total of 5,388 visitors. The arrival of the Carnival Valor and the Brilliance of the Seas reaffirms the region's growing popularity as a key Caribbean tourist destination.
The Carnival Valor arrived at the pier at 6:50 a.m., carrying 3,210 passengers and 1,126 crew members. This cruise ship, popular among American travelers, had come from Cozumel and stayed in port until 3:00 p.m. before setting sail for New Orleans.
Shortly afterwards, at 7:34 a.m., the Brilliance of the Seas from Royal Caribbean Cruises docked. As part of its Caribbean tour, the ship brought 2,178 passengers and 857 crew members to the port. Like the Carnival Valor, its final destination is also New Orleans, further establishing Progreso as a crucial stop on its route.
The influx of over five thousand visitors significantly boosted the local economy. Tourists explored the boardwalk, beaches, and local attractions, providing a surge in income for local merchants and service providers. This highlights the passengers' interest in the region's culture and natural beauty, and underscores the importance of tourism to Progreso's economy.
