Tulum's Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport recently celebrated a significant milestone – the arrival of its one millionth passenger. The Governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, marked the occasion as a historic day for the region. The airport is seen as a symbol of progress and development for the Maya region, playing a crucial role in promoting shared prosperity among indigenous communities.
The one millionth passenger was Gerardo Treviño Zúñiga, hailing from Laredo, Tamaulipas. He arrived on a Viva Aerobus flight from Monterrey. Interestingly, Zúñiga was also one of the airport's first passengers when he arrived in December of the previous year.
The airport's success has surpassed expectations set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It has recorded over 7,790 operations and reached the impressive milestone of one million passengers. Governor Lezama anticipates that the airport will conclude the year with 10,100 operations and 1.3 million passengers, solidifying its role as a crucial connectivity hub for the Mexican Caribbean.
This achievement underscores the growing confidence in Mexico, the transformation led by Claudia Sheinbaum, and the appeal of Quintana Roo as a premier destination. Governor Lezama praised the efforts of all Quintana Roo residents in fostering a prosperous region that benefits everyone, in line with the New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo.
Passenger numbers across all Quintana Roo airports continue to rise, reflecting a commitment to socially responsible tourism that reaches every corner of the Mexican Caribbean. Here's to the next million passengers!
