Pothole Repair Surges in Puerto Aventuras: Municipality Takes Action

The Puerto Aventuras borough is seeing an increase in pothole repair efforts, led by the Solidaridad municipal government under President Estefanía Mercado. Teams are now working throughout the borough to address a backlog of repairs that has built up over the past three years, a situation worsened by heavy rainfall over the past three months.

The repair work is being conducted across the entire municipality, using a material known as cold asphalt. This material, which includes additives and polymers, can be used regardless of ground humidity. It does not require a sealer and is ready for traffic immediately after application.

In addition to the cold asphalt, traditional hot asphalt emulsion is also being used for pothole repairs, primarily on sunny days and on dry surfaces to ensure the longevity of the repairs.

Doris Aké Sierra, the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, emphasized the municipal president's directive to work at full capacity every day of the week to address this issue. She stressed that maintaining roads in good condition is key to improving the quality of life for residents.

To expedite the repair work, the municipality has been divided into four zones, including both Playa del Carmen and the Puerto Aventuras borough. Two of these zones are being managed by the Secretary of Public Services, while the remaining two are overseen by the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works.
