The Cancún Municipal Choir recently achieved great success at the Praga Cantat festival in the Czech Republic. They stood out among 22 choirs from 11 different countries, proudly representing Mexico and taking home four awards, including the top prize in the Mixed Choirs category.
The victory was announced by Ana Paty Peralta, the Municipal President of Benito Juárez. She emphasized the significance of this win for the cultural reputation of Cancún and Mexico as a whole.
Peralta also highlighted the support her administration provides for arts and culture. She believes this international success reflects the wealth of talent found in Benito Juárez.
At the festival, the Municipal Choir impressed both the jury and the audience with their artistic depth and carefully chosen repertoire. Their performance included notable pieces of traditional and popular Mexican music, such as “Lo mi son giovinetta”, “Pasar la vida”, “Guayaboso”, “La Llorona” and “Huapango”.
These songs were performed with great sensitivity and vocal technique, creating an emotional connection with the audience. The choir provided a vibrant display of Mexican folklore and cultural richness, much to the delight of the festival attendees.
