Claudia Sheinbaum Backs Tulum Land Plan

Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, expressed her full endorsement of the Tulum Land Management Program during the "Morning of the People" conference. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of this program, which aims to control the growth of the municipality amidst significant development projects like the new airport and Jaguar Park.

She reassured that tourist regions such as Tulum and Puerto Escondido would not be negatively impacted by these developments. Progress will be organized and carried out with the support of the relevant authorities.

One of the main challenges of Tulum's growth is sustainability, according to Sheinbaum. "The municipality recently published a land management program that is crucial due to the new flights arriving in Tulum, the Maya Train, and the airport. These developments pose a risk of disorganized growth in the area," she stated. Sheinbaum added, "We want Tulum to remain a space in harmony with nature, without significantly impacting the rainforest and natural resources."

Sheinbaum emphasized that Tulum's land management is vital to ensure that the municipality remains an attractive tourist destination. Its growth should not affect the rainforest and other essential natural resources.

Sheinbaum also explained that both the federal government and Quintana Roo's governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, are collaborating with municipal authorities. The aim is to ensure that new developments are orderly and environmentally respectful.

During the same conference, Sheinbaum praised Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa's work, particularly her commitment to women's issues. She applauded the creation of the Women's Secretariat in the state, a significant step in promoting public policies for the well-being of Quintana Roo's women.

"She is a dedicated, active woman, full of convictions, who loves her state dearly. Moreover, it is one of the few states that has transferred properties or property rights in both rural and urban areas to women," Sheinbaum commented.

Finally, the head of Profeco, Iván Escalante Ruiz, reported they are considering setting up a service module in the state capital, Chetumal. This move aims to improve attention and services in the region, which currently lacks representation from the Federal Consumer Attorney's Office.
