The World Wide Technology Championship, a flagship tournament of the PGA Tour in Mexico, kicks off today. This year marks the 18th anniversary of the tournament. The competition will take place at El Cardonal in Los Cabos, the first course designed by former world champion Tiger Woods. The course offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The event was previously hosted in Mayakoba, Playa del Carmen, but has recently moved to Los Cabos, with World Wide Technology as the primary sponsor.

The tournament features a lineup of 120 players, including Erik van Rooyen, the winner of the last edition. Van Rooyen secured his victory with an impressive 28 strokes in the final nine holes, overcoming strong competition from Camilo Villegas of Colombia. Other notable participants include past champions Harris English, Charlie Hoffman, Patton Kizzire, and Matt Kuchar. The tournament also showcases Latin American talent, such as Nico Echevarría, recent winner of the Zozo Championship, and Jhonattan Vegas, who made a successful comeback this season after an injury. Other Latin American players include Argentine Ale Tosti and Puerto Rican Rafa Campos.

Mexican representation in the tournament is led by Raúl Pereda, the only Mexican player in the PGA Tour. Emilio González, a player from the Korn Ferry Tour who will soon compete in the PGA Tour finals, will also participate. Other Mexican players include Isidro Benítez, Santiago de la Fuente, who has had a successful season in Asia, and Omar Morales, the top Mexican player in the PGA Tour University. Fresh off a win at the Mexican Professional Tour in León, Raúl Pereda will hopefully find further motivation playing in front of his home crowd.
