The Municipal President of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta, has announced the renaming of the Municipal Department of Social and Economic Development to the Municipal Department of Welfare. This change, made official in the State of Quintana Roo's Official Newspaper, marks a significant move towards enhancing the implementation of programs and public policies for the community's most vulnerable groups.

Peralta emphasized that this change stems from the commitment to be a government that is accessible, identifiable, and above all, for the people. The importance of maintaining a close relationship with citizens is a key element of her administration. The renaming, approved on September 27 during the Seventy-Third Ordinary Session, signifies a structural renewal. The department's administrative units will now work with a more direct focus on social welfare.

This new approach aims to create a government that coordinates the efforts of various organizations to address the needs of society's priority sectors. The new work structure will strengthen initiatives in areas such as the economy, health, social development, citizen participation, education, and the rights of children and adolescents.

The department is also committed to ensuring a life free from violence, promoting gender equality, serving priority groups, and advocating for labor dignity and social cohesion. There is a particular emphasis on preventing discrimination and adopting a human rights-based approach.

Peralta stressed that the municipality is continuing to align with the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This includes commitments to transform Cancún into a better city. The renaming and refocusing of the department is in line with both federal and state reforms. This reaffirms the commitment to work within a legal administrative structure aimed at combating social inequalities. This will be achieved without disrupting the peaceful coexistence or solidarity that characterizes the community, ensuring an environment of political and cultural diversity for the benefit of the inhabitants of Benito Juárez.
