The Mexican government has declared a significant 53,000 hectares of jungle across Solidaridad, Tulum, and the continental area of Cozumel as a protected natural area. This move prohibits the extraction of stone material in these regions.

Vulcan, a major stakeholder in the region, has lodged a challenge against this presidential decree, which aims to safeguard these environmentally significant areas. The decree was implemented shortly before the end of the previous federal government's term.

The area, known as the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Flora and Fauna Protection Area, is currently in the process of receiving official environmental protection status.

Judge Carrera has ruled against granting a provisional suspension to the decree. He stated that such a suspension would be inappropriate, as it could potentially harm public interests and disrupt social order.
