Virgin Voyages has extended its reach in Cozumel with the arrival of its latest ship, the Resilient Lady. The port of Cozumel rolled out the red carpet to welcome this impressive cruise liner, which can host over 3,900 passengers. The Resilient Lady's inaugural visit to the island marks Cozumel as a crucial cruise destination in America. As the newest addition to the Virgin Voyages fleet, the ship represents the cruise industry's confidence in Cozumel, widely recognized as a premier cruise destination in America.
Margarita del Rosario Vázquez Barrios, the Secretary-General of the City Council, attended the event on behalf of Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez. She emphasized the significance of the Resilient Lady's arrival, the first of Virgin Voyages' fleet to visit the island. Vázquez Barrios expressed that it symbolizes the cruise industry's faith in Cozumel, and it's a cause for celebration for all island residents.
José Elías Farah Ceh, the Deputy Director of Municipal Tourism, noted that the Resilient Lady's arrival not only underscores the ship's grandeur but also brings excellent news for the local economy. Farah Ceh stated, "Each new cruise signifies an extended arrival season, which will attract more tourists and, consequently, boost Cozumel's economy." During the ceremony, Farah Ceh presented Captain Krzysztof Marek Majdzinski with a replica of the Goddess Ixchel, the island's symbol. In return, the captain gave Farah Ceh a commemorative plaque marking the Resilient Lady's docking at the international cruise pier “Punta Langosta”.
The Resilient Lady follows the Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady as the third Virgin Voyages ship to operate in Cozumel. The Brilliant Lady, the fleet's fourth ship, is expected to arrive in 2025. It will commence sailing in the Caribbean, further strengthening Virgin Voyages' presence in the region.
