Cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing freight transportation, with automated processes and real-time interaction between artificial intelligence (AI) and humans becoming a reality. These innovations are now available in the Mexican market and were showcased at the 24th National Freight Transport Forum, organized by the National Association of Private Transport (ANTP) in Playa del Carmen.
Karen Espinoza, an executive at Samsara, highlighted how logistics operations are becoming more efficient and smarter, with increased data usage for decision making. According to a survey of 1,500 industry decision-makers, only 50% of logistics companies in Mexico currently use AI technology. This indicates a significant opportunity for businesses to adopt tools that can enhance efficiency and safety.
Espinoza discussed the automation of processes to link field operations with offices, aiming to provide timely and intelligent visibility. She emphasized the potential to automate feedback to operators, ensuring they receive immediate and actionable information.
Tecnomotum, a Mexican company, has integrated AI into their operations to assist operators during critical moments, helping to prevent road accidents and crimes. Tecnomotum's multimodal AI uses text, images, voice, and video to provide valuable data for monitoring centers.
Luis Galán, CTO and founder of Tecnomotum, explained their system can contact operators to gather missing information or alert them of issues such as exceeding continuous driving hours. The AI system consolidates all information and only intervenes with voice and alerts when necessary. Galán stressed that their innovation aims to make operators feel protected by AI, rather than monitored.
Sergio Castillo, Regional Sales Manager of SSAB Special Steels, demonstrated how the company has managed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions through the manufacture of advanced alloys. The global company has achieved a 35% reduction in dump truck passage, resulting in fuel savings equivalent to removing 41 vehicles from the streets. Castillo emphasized the need for lighter manufacturing components to meet new industry demands and infrastructure requirements.
