Alcoholism has emerged as a significant issue among tourism workers in Cancun, with many seeking assistance from Alcoholics Anonymous and Youth Integration Centres. Liliam Negrete, the director of the latter, revealed that these organizations consistently host discussions at workplaces like hotels and tourism companies, focusing on addiction prevention, primarily alcohol and drug abuse.

Negrete stated that around 70% of those seeking help are men, with the remaining 30% being women who often require additional emotional support. Many of these workers tend to consume alcohol after their shifts, but there have been instances of individuals drinking during work hours or arriving at work under the influence.

In recognition of the International Day of Older Persons, the organizations also highlighted that they have been assisting individuals aged 40 to 60 who are seeking help for their drinking habits. It was noted that this addiction often persists throughout their lives and tends to intensify as they age. Many older adults admitted to consuming alcohol due to feelings of depression, loneliness, or despair caused by age-related illnesses.

The upcoming Alcoholics Anonymous congress will primarily target those within the community who are helping others. The event aims to educate attendees on the various methods and techniques available for treating alcoholism. The congress, which will be held in Puerto Morelos from August 30 to September 1, is expected to attract around 600 community members for training.

Roger E., a delegate of the conference in Quintana Roo, explained that the congress will operate under the theme "Year of Reading the Twelve Concepts for World Service". He emphasized that the goal is to discuss the functioning services of Alcoholics Anonymous in Isla Mujeres Benito Juarez, Lazaro Cardenas, and Puerto Morelos. Professionals such as doctors, psychologists, and spiritual guides are invited to learn about the methods used by Alcoholics Anonymous to treat this disease.
