In a combined effort, the Federal Ministerial Police and the Preventive Municipal Police arrested a man known as El Rappi in Playa Del Carmen. The 27-year-old, whose real name is José Luis, is originally from Chetumal. He is suspected of being the leader of a group of hitmen for a gang known as La Chapiza in the northern region of Quintana Roo. El Rappi is also believed to be behind an armed attack on the home of Deputy Secretary of Municipal Citizen Security of Solidaridad, William Ross Bastarrachea.

During the arrest, authorities confiscated around one and a half kilograms of cocaine, a nine-millimeter caliber pistol with a loaded magazine, and a vehicle. El Rappi was then transported to Cancún where he was handed over to the Attorney General's Office. He faces charges related to health crimes and violation of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.

Initial reports suggest that El Rappi cleverly disguised his hitmen and drug distributors as food delivery workers for a company called Rappi. This allowed them to move freely and carry out illegal activities in the area without raising suspicion. The arrest of El Rappi is a significant setback for organized crime in the region.
