Carlos "N", a suspected kidnapper from Coatzacoalcos, has been apprehended in Cancún, Quintana Roo. The arrest was carried out by investigators from the Specialized Unit in Combating Kidnapping (UECS), based in Coatzacoalcos, in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo. Carlos "N" had been evading justice since 2017 and is accused of participating in the kidnapping of a businessman in Minatitlán in November 2016.
The suspect was arrested as he was leaving his residence in the town of Benito Juárez. At the time of his arrest, agents informed him of an existing warrant for his apprehension on charges of aggravated kidnapping.
In 2016, a group of heavily armed individuals kidnapped a businessman while he was traveling in two vans. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of two million pesos from the victim’s family for his release. However, the businessman managed to escape the next day during a lapse in attention by his captors.
The victim reported the incident to the UECS in Coatzacoalcos, which initiated an investigation into the matter. The investigators identified the culprits and obtained an arrest warrant against Carlos “N", leading to criminal case 178/2017.
Through intelligence efforts, the UECS discovered that Carlos "N" was in Cancún. With the assistance of the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo, the agents were able to locate and arrest the fugitive this week.
Following his arrest, Carlos "N" was transported to Coatzacoalcos by UECS detectives and handed over to the relevant authorities. At the initial hearing, the specialized prosecutor of the UECS presented the charges and requested preventive detention, which was granted for the duration of the trial.
Carlos “N" is currently being held at the Duport Ostión Regional Prison in Coatzacoalcos, where he will await the binding hearing in the coming days.
