AMLO’s Maya Train Inspection: Updates and Highlights

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is scheduled to visit Mérida on Saturday for a comprehensive inspection of the Maya Train's segments in Yucatán and Quintana Roo. His tour will begin on Friday afternoon in Palenque, Chiapas, where he will assess the operation of the Maya Train and journey to the archaeological site of Edzná, in Campeche.

While in Campeche, he will also visit a hotel currently under construction as part of the Promeza tourist infrastructure program. Afterward, he will reboard the Maya Train, arriving at Teya station in the evening. He will spend the night in Mérida, where he is expected to meet with Morena leaders to discuss the ongoing campaign in Yucatán.

On Saturday morning, around 10 a.m., the president will continue his journey on the Maya Train from Teya station to Valladolid station. From there, he will travel by road to the archaeological site of Ekbalam for a tour. Afterward, he will return to Valladolid station to continue his journey by train to Cancún.

In Cancún, he will evaluate the operation and construction of all the segments he visited, as well as the pending works on sections of Quintana Roo. These sections have reported significant damage to ancient cenote vaults and caves, as well as groundwater pollution. It is currently not expected that President López Obrador will announce any measures to mitigate or rectify the ecological damage caused by the construction of section 5.

The president will survey the Quintana Roo sections by helicopter before returning to Cancún, where he will stay overnight on Saturday. After an evaluation meeting on Sunday, he will return to Mexico City.
