Animal rights activists in Playa del Carmen have taken to the streets to demand justice for two dogs, Yoda and Ekk, who were tragically killed by a car on May 12. The protest took place along the Playa del Carmen Boulevard and concluded at Xcaret Park.
The dogs were struck by a vehicle while out for a walk with their owner, Marina Rubio. The driver, known only as Samuel, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Despite this, the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office in Playa del Carmen released Samuel, stating that there was no crime to answer for.
The activists are not accepting this decision and have taken their fight online, launching a campaign on change.org titled "We demand justice for Eek and Yoda, victims of a drunk driver."
Marina Rubio, who is also an animal rights activist, is calling for the appropriate laws to be enforced and for the driver to be held accountable for his actions.
