Drug Addicts Anonymous A.C. Unleashes Affordable Rosca Sale in Mérida

A street vendor in a cap and light blue shirt is selling pastries from a cart in a busy outdoor market. People are walking around and another vendor in a red shirt is interacting with someone in the background.

In response to the soaring prices in department stores in Mérida, the civil association, Drug Addicts Anonymous A.C., is providing an economical alternative.

Starting from the morning of Friday, January 3, members of the association, which is dedicated to rehabilitating individuals with drug addictions, initiated their traditional Rosca de Reyes sale. This year, six sales points have been set up in various parts of Mérida’s Historic Center, with an additional point in the Centennial Zoological Park. From 8:00 a.m., eager sellers are prepared to offer Roscas to pedestrians. The sale will continue until Monday, January 6.

Alexis Peña, a volunteer at the association, explained that the annual sale aims to raise funds for the maintenance of the shelter, located in the Santa Cruz subdivision. The shelter currently houses 80 individuals undergoing rehabilitation. The proceeds from the sale are also used to purchase food and provide therapies, as the group offers its services free of charge. Peña further added that the bread-making workshop aims to help the residents find an occupation and successfully reintegrate into society.
