In Quintana Roo, Mexico, a total of 812,983 residents lack access to Social Security, which equates to 42.4 percent of the state's 2.04 million population. This statistic comes from the most recent report from IMSS-Welfare. In an effort to move towards universal coverage, 110 medical units have been activated in both urban and rural areas of the state. These units are operational seven days a week.
In addition to this, the hiring of 174 doctors from the Cuban medical brigade has been reported by Moisés Toledo Pensamiento, the director of IMSS-Welfare. These doctors are working to strengthen the provision of medical care in the state.
Of the 110 medical units, 90 are located in rural and urban areas, known as First Level Rural and Urban Units. The remaining 20 are in general and comprehensive hospitals. The addition of 174 Cuban brigade doctors, who are working seven days a week, ensures continuous medical attention for the population.
