A video has surfaced on social media, showing the arrest of two individuals at the intersection of López Portillo Avenue and Nichupté in Cancún. The incident occurred in front of a gas station and was recorded by bystanders. The footage shows two men facing a patrol car, moments before being handcuffed by Cancún police officers.
In a surprising turn of events, one of the men begins to grapple with an officer, attempting to seize his gun. Soon, both men are struggling to take the weapon from the officer, while his partner warns them to let go. When the men refuse to back down, the second officer shoots them in the legs, incapacitating them before making the arrest.
Unofficial reports suggest that the arrested individuals are suspected of robbing a taxi driver and his passengers in Leona Vicario, Puerto Morelos just minutes before their arrest. It is believed that the alleged culprits used a staggered boarding tactic to deceive their victims.
By sheer coincidence, one of the taxi passengers managed to photograph the suspects, which greatly assisted in their identification and subsequent arrest by municipal authorities. The suspects were later intercepted at the intersection of López Portillo Avenue and Nichupté, in front of the same gas station where the video was recorded.
In the end, the attempt to disarm the Cancún police officers led to a shooting, but the quick thinking and action of the officers prevented any further injury.
