Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Felipe Carrillo Puerto responded to a drowning incident involving a hotel worker in the vicinity of Laguna Azul on Holy Thursday. The victim, identified as Jair, had entered the water to swim before suddenly disappearing beneath the surface.
Recovery Efforts Underway
Officials secured the area with caution tape while awaiting the arrival of expert divers to recover the body, which remained submerged as of the latest reports. Emergency personnel, including officers from the local Public Security Directorate and Red Cross paramedics, arrived at the scene but were unable to retrieve the victim without specialized equipment.
According to witnesses, Jair, an employee at a hotel in Tulum, had returned home after his shift and traveled with his wife and other family members to Laguna Azul, located approximately eight kilometers away, to cool off in the water. After venturing roughly ten meters from the shore, he submerged and did not resurface. Relatives attempted to assist but were unsuccessful due to a lack of proper rescue gear.
Family Seeks Answers
Distraught family members watched helplessly as authorities coordinated recovery efforts. The victim’s body had not been located by the time officials arrived, prompting a request for professional divers to assist in the operation.
