The Solidaridad government has begun imposing penalties on the Barceló hotel following two recent incidents. These include an accident where two Mexican tourists were injured in the pool area, and a gas leak that led to a second emergency alert at the complex.
Darwin Covarrubias, Secretary of Civil Protection, confirmed that seals have been placed in the affected areas. The hotel will face penalties depending on the findings of the official investigation.
The first incident took place last Sunday when a couple of tourists sustained unspecified injuries in the pool area. Images of the accident were shared on social media. According to Covarrubias, following this incident, Civil Protection staff faced resistance from the hotel's private security team. The team blocked access to the site for almost half an hour and only allowed entry after the incident had been resolved and no evidence of the accident remained.
The hotel made a second emergency call on Monday due to a gas leak. After investigating this incident, the Solidaridad government has decided to prepare a report. This report will determine the level of responsibility and the penalties that the hotel will face.
