The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, recently met with the Prime Minister of Belize, Juan Antonio Briceño. The meeting occurred during López Obrador's tour of Mexico's southeast to oversee the Maya Train project.

Last Tuesday, following his morning conference, López Obrador welcomed Prime Minister Briceño at the National Palace. López Obrador later shared on social media, "We were recently in Edzná and Ek Balam, two magnificent Mayan cities that we are restoring. We toured the Maya Train route from Palenque to Cancun, monitoring its progress. We concluded with a meeting with Juan Antonio Briceño, Prime Minister of our neighboring and brotherly nation, Belize."

During their Tuesday meeting, the two leaders discussed topics such as development cooperation, energy, regional security, and the promotion of Central American integration with projects like the Maya Train and Sowing Life. They also talked about migration issues.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and effective collaboration in response to the challenges facing their nations and the region as a whole.

Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Briceño signed Belize's accession to the founding agreement of the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE) at the headquarters of Foreign Relations.
