The Solidaridad Architecture Week concluded on Saturday with a bike ride. Architects and students from the Riviera University of Playa del Carmen gathered for the event. They started at the university campus and rode to Plaza Las Americas. Along the way, they enjoyed the outdoors and assessed the state of local bike lanes.

Martha Guadalupe Suárez Dueñas, the President of the College of Architects of the Riviera Maya, emphasized the need for safer bike lanes. She pointed out the lack of signage, interconnectivity, and adequate width for two-way traffic. She stressed the importance of addressing these issues promptly.

Suárez Dueñas also revealed plans to present the findings of the bike ride, along with previous assessments, to the new municipal administration. She said, "We will propose a comprehensive plan to enhance and optimize the bike lanes, always with the cyclists' welfare in mind."

Dulce Montemayor, the Academic Coordinator of Architecture at the university, highlighted the absence of traffic signs and warning notices near construction sites. She stressed the importance of traffic education, saying, "Bicycles are an excellent mode of transport that can improve city mobility. However, we must prioritize the safety of cyclists."

The event served as more than a celebration of architecture. It was also a call to action to create a safer and more accessible environment. The aim is to make mobility in Playa del Carmen a reality for all residents.
