On Monday, July 1, a boat caught fire near the Calinda Bridge, a popular landmark situated at kilometer 4.5 of the Hotel Zone in Cancún. The fire was promptly addressed by personnel from the Secretary of the Navy and a nearby boat, who worked together to control the blaze. Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries resulting from the incident.
Firefighters were also dispatched to the scene, but they faced challenges in reaching the boat due to its location at sea. They were forced to stand by at a neighboring hotel. Meanwhile, the crew of the burning boat worked tirelessly to put out the fire. Despite their efforts, the boat sustained significant damage and is now considered a total loss.
The fire produced a large plume of smoke, drawing the attention of tourists from the nearby bridge and the Pirate Ship attraction in Cancún. Both locals and visitors managed to capture images of the fire and the subsequent response operation.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. One theory being considered is that a short circuit on the boat may have sparked the blaze. Efforts are ongoing to secure the area and determine the exact cause of the fire.
