Local authorities reported the discovery of a body on Federal Highway 307, the stretch of road connecting Playa del Carmen and Tulum, on Friday morning. The body was found near the entrance to the Xcaret Xenses park at around 11:20 am on September 20, following a call to the 911 emergency services.

Details regarding the identity of the deceased or the cause of death have yet to be officially released. However, investigations are underway. Preliminary information suggests that the individual may have been homeless. The body, found shirtless and wearing black trousers, was located at the side of the road.

Authorities are considering several theories regarding the cause of death. One possibility is that the individual was involved in a car accident, although natural causes have not been ruled out. Another theory is that excessive alcohol consumption, a common issue amongst the local homeless population, may have been a contributing factor. This theory has not been confirmed.

Officers from the Ministerial Police were dispatched to the scene to document the incident. Meanwhile, experts from the State Attorney General's Office conducted the body recovery. The body was then transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for a lawful autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise patience while forensic investigations are ongoing. They are also encouraging anyone with information that could assist in identifying the victim to come forward.
