In the Puerto Maya subdivision of Puerto Aventuras, the burned body of a man was discovered this afternoon. The body was found in the underbrush, near the intersection of Tadzi and Tzalam streets, next to a water pump. The police were alerted to the scene around 12:30 pm by a local resident.
Preliminary information suggests the man was in his 40s and possibly homeless. There is speculation that the man may have accidentally set himself on fire with a bonfire after suffering from alcohol poisoning. The body was found face down, surrounded by refuse and under a tree.
Forensic experts from the State Prosecutor's Office were dispatched to the scene. After processing the site, they removed the body. It was then transported to the Forensic Medical Service facilities and admitted as unidentified.
