Body Found Near Cancún Highway in Quintana Roo Probe

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Authorities are investigating the discovery of a deceased individual found dumped alongside the Cancún–Leona Vicario highway on Sunday evening. The body was located shortly before reaching the town of Leona Vicario in the municipality of Puerto Morelos.

Discovery and Initial Reports

The grim discovery occurred around 7:00 p.m., prompting a rapid response from security and emergency personnel. According to preliminary reports, the victim's head was covered with a towel, raising suspicions about the circumstances of the death and whether it may be linked to organized crime.

Investigators have not yet determined whether the individual died as a result of a hit-and-run incident or if the body was transported and abandoned at the site after death occurred elsewhere.

Police and Forensic Response

Municipal police and National Guard officers secured the area to allow forensic personnel to conduct their work. Experts later removed the body and began investigative procedures to determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or confirmed whether signs of violence were present.

Ongoing Investigation

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation but has yet to disclose any leads regarding the cause of death or how the body came to be at the location.
