In Quintana Roo, cases of influenza in hospitals have surged by 113 percent compared to the previous year. As of November 2023, 88 patients had been treated for complications related to this illness. However, during the same period in 2024, this number had risen to 188, with 108 men and 80 women affected. As a result, the State Health Services (Sesa) is urging the public to get vaccinated as soon as possible, even though the vaccination campaign is set to run until March 2024. This is due to the onset of winter and the associated temperature changes.
Vaccines are available for free at all Health Centers and hospitals across the 11 municipalities in the region. Those wishing to receive the vaccine only need to present their vaccination card. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines influenza as a contagious, acute viral respiratory disease. Its typical symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, runny nose, sore throat, and cough.
