The Benito Juarez Municipality has yet to determine a start date for the reinstatement of breathalyzer tests in Cancun, citing a lack of prepared protocols as the primary cause for delay.
Pablo Gutierrez Fernandez, the general secretary of the City Council, has stated that the development of a regulatory framework for these operations remains a pending task.
"We're working closely with the Citizen Security and Traffic Department to reform and modify the regulations. While we can't provide a specific start date, we're making every effort to expedite the process," Fernandez said.
The procurement of devices necessary for alcohol testing presents another hurdle. Although some devices are already available, more are needed to fully implement the program.
Fernandez acknowledged that the authorities are working to acquire more devices for alcohol testing, despite the Traffic Department already owning some.
He emphasized the need for additional equipment to increase transparency in the program, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety of all who use the roads in Benito Juarez.
