TULUM – The revitalization of community spirit, which includes maintaining safe, clean, and well-kept public spaces, is essential for the prosperity of Tulum. This sentiment was shared by Jorge Portilla Mánica, a candidate for the presidency from the Movimiento Ciudadano, during his visit to the Ya’ax Tulum and Mayapax neighborhoods.
Residents of these areas are calling for improved infrastructure, such as paving and drainage, increased safety measures, and the creation of at least one park with sports facilities for the youth. According to Portilla Mánica, the rapid growth of the city, coupled with the formation of political and interest groups, and a climate of political violence, has led to a swift erosion of community spirit.
He believes that this lack of community connection contributes to crime, as neighbors have lost the sense of solidarity that once bound them together. "We need to interact more and acknowledge each other. In my administration, we will establish and refurbish sports facilities and parks to encourage citizen integration and active participation in the humanist government I plan to lead," he stated.
Portilla Mánica concluded by emphasizing the importance of community building for the future of Tulum. "Building a community is vital for Tulum's prosperity. Only through the involvement of citizens who know and recognize each other can we safeguard Tulum and construct a better present for everyone," he said.
