Legal Battle Loss: Calica Barred from Playa del Carmen

Calica, a company based in Playa del Carmen, has suffered a legal setback with the dismissal of a protective order by the Seventh District Court.

The court's decision means that Calica will not be able to access its facilities in Playa del Carmen. The protective order was brought forward by Calizas Industriales del Carmen (CALICA), now known as Sac Tun, to prevent the closure of its facilities in May 2022.

The American company has been involved in numerous legal trials, attempting to continue its extractive activities, which are causing harm to the local natural environment.

However, according to case number 854/2023, the Seventh District Judge, based in Cancun, dismissed the protective order trial on May 15. This announcement means that Calica has suffered another legal setback and will still be unable to use its facilities.

The company's ongoing legal troubles mean that its facilities in Playa del Carmen will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
