José Urbina Bravo, a member of the Sélvame del Tren organization, is raising concerns about construction activities in Bahía Solimán, located within the Tulum municipality. He reports that a developer is disregarding a work suspension order and continuing to build on a sea turtle nesting area.
In a video shared on his social media platforms, Urbina Bravo called for authorities to step in and enforce the suspension order. He claims that despite three visits from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa), the developer continues to violate the closure orders.
Urbina Bravo is a vocal critic of the federal Maya Train project and has previously sought legal protection against it. He was successful in securing a definitive suspension in court case 823/2022, which temporarily stopped the railway track construction. Now, he is turning his attention to Bahía Solimán, where authorities have been unable to halt ongoing construction work.
The civil association has issued an injunction against Profepa for failing to supervise and stop the construction of Adamar Solimán, a seven-level condominium already being marketed.
On May 7, Profepa staff visited the site and placed a closure seal. However, within hours, workers had resumed construction, blatantly disregarding the seal. This prompted calls for Profepa to take action and report the law violations to the Public Ministry.
In response to the situation, Profepa has lodged a complaint with the General Attorney's Office of the Republic (FGR) over the most recent violation of the closure seals. The agency stated, “The construction of twenty-four apartments is being carried out without authorization and in a sea turtle nesting area with mangrove vegetation."
