Mothers Demand Prosecutor at Cancún Airport Sit-In

The "Mothers Searchers" collective began a peaceful protest at Cancún International Airport's Terminal 2. This demonstration was in response to the police's recent actions against the group in Chetumal.

Around 5 pm, the collective, led by María Patrón Pat, initiated the sit-in. They displayed banners and signs expressing their dissatisfaction with the authorities' actions. The group also called for the resignation of Cristina Torres, the Secretary of Government. They hold her accountable for the removal of protesters in Chetumal.

The collective accuses Torres of ignoring their requests to improve search operations. In an interview, María Patrón Pat criticized the authorities' inaction in finding their missing relatives. She cited the case of William Hernández Zapata, a teenager who disappeared seven years ago in Cancún.

The collective's representative claimed that the Prosecutor's Office has made no effort to locate the young man or apprehend those allegedly responsible for his disappearance. William Hernández was 17 when he was abducted from his home in the Corales subdivision by armed men.

María Patrón Pat stated that the collective would remain at the airport until Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar and Secretary of Government Cristina Torres Gómez arrive. “We will stay here until the prosecutor and the Secretary of Government come to face us. We will wait for them here,” she concluded.
