Southeast Airports (ASUR) has embarked on a major expansion and renovation project for Terminal 1 at Cancun International Airport. This project, which commenced earlier this year, is projected to be completed by mid-2026. The primary objective is to have the terminal operational by 2026, significantly increasing the airport’s capacity with all terminals in service.
“If you go to the airport, you will see it very noticeably, we are building the new Terminal 1, which is a remodeling and expansion of the entire Terminal 1, which was closed and out of service for a long time. The work has already started, the work is going quite well, it is on time and in the right way, it should be finished by the second half of 2026,” shared Carlos Trueba Coll, director of the Airport.
In addition to this, ASUR is also undertaking a substantial expansion of Terminal 4. The second stage of this expansion is nearing completion.
In terms of connectivity, a moderate growth of 6 to 8 percent is anticipated. However, political changes, particularly in the United States – the country from which the majority of visitors to the Mexican Caribbean originate – could potentially impact these projections.
