On Friday, September 27th, Cancún's City Theater was officially opened by Governor Mara Lezama and Benito Juarez municipal president, Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña. The project was funded by an approximate investment of 90 million pesos from the Federation and an additional 50 million pesos from the municipal government.

The new cultural venue kicked off with performances from the Cancún Philharmonic Orchestra, the Municipal Choir, and Folkloric Ballet Companies. There was also a videomapping and audio production, themed around water and the goddess Ixchel. Governor Lezama highlighted the completion of this project, which began during her first term as municipal president. She emphasized the high-quality facilities now available for artists, including advanced audio systems, lights, curtains, and an extended stage with an orchestra pit.

Municipal President Peralta de la Peña emphasized that the Cancún Theater will provide a platform for both local talent and artists from around the nation and the world. The theater has already scheduled 22 shows until September, featuring performances by the National Theater Company and the International Music Festival.

The Theater can accommodate 650 people, and includes an experimental 'black box' forum with an additional 100 seats. There are also four classrooms for workshops. This represents a significant step forward for the cultural scene in Cancún.
