Governor Mara Lezama has given out 219 property titles to families who had sold their assets 40 years ago but never received their deeds. This action is part of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, which aims to resolve this longstanding issue by providing legal certainty for these families.
The Secretary of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development, the Secretary of Government, and the Public Property Registry have all collaborated to support the economy of the most impoverished. Each of the property titles was subsidized by 7,057 pesos, totalling 1,545,483 pesos for all 219 titles.
Governor Lezama personally handed out the deeds on-site, without any intermediaries. Out of the 219 titles, 205 are for properties in Cancún, 3 in Isla Mujeres, 3 in Playa del Carmen, and 8 in Puerto Morelos. Furthermore, 58 of the titles are registered in a woman's name, 41 in a man's name, and 120 are registered in both names.
Among those present at the event were beneficiaries María Elidé Poot Canché and José Concepción Hoil Kumul, Honorary President of the DIF Quintana Roo System, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, Municipal President of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, and Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres Gómez.
