Heartwarming Story: Family Donates Late Worker’s Organs in Cancún

The family of a late worker from the Maya Train project has made a significant contribution to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Quintana Roo. The worker's wife and son have given their consent for his organs to be donated, marking the first multi-organ procurement of the year for the Social Security in Quintana Roo.

Before the operation took place, the healthcare staff at the Regional General Hospital No. 17 in Cancún lined the corridor to applaud the family's noble act. The donor, known as César "N", was a man dedicated to the welfare of his colleagues. Known among his co-workers as "Engineer Castel", he spent his life working in Industrial Security, ensuring the safety of his team.

César "N" had previously worked as security at the IMSS in Puebla, and his recent role with the Maya Train project was in the same field. His wife, Ana María "N", shared that both she and her husband had signed a document 22 years ago at their son's school, expressing their wish to be organ donors. This desire to help others was a long-standing one, stemming from their youth when they were both scouts.

Ana María recalls that last year, their son nearly needed a cornea transplant. Although it ultimately wasn't necessary, the experience reinforced their commitment to organ donation. Ana María finds comfort in knowing that even after death, her husband can continue to help others through organ donation.

Their son, Christian “N”, expressed his support for the decision, stating that his father was a hero who always sought to help others. He said that his father's organ donation was a testament to his lifelong dedication to helping others, and that he would continue to live on through the people he helped.

This donation marks the eighth organ donation this year, but the first multi-organ donation in Quintana Roo. The organs procured included kidneys, skin, bone, and corneas, according to Dr. Moisés Campos Navarro, the Hospital Coordinator of Organ and Tissue Donation.
