The Mexican Caribbean is looking to diversify its tourism offerings. While medical and student tourism have already seen success, the new focus is on sports tourism. To achieve this, strategic partnerships are being formed. One such alliance is between Businessmen for Quintana and Cancun FC.
Sergio León Cervantes, president of Businessmen for Quintana, highlighted the importance of sports in this diversification effort. He noted that many travelers select their destinations based on sports events and related activities. Cancun FC, a football club, is working to promote sports tourism in the region.
"We are excited that Businessmen for Quintana Roo is partnering with Cancun FC," said Cervantes. "We are a group of over 250 business leaders from across the 11 municipalities of Quintana Roo. This alliance is a key part of our strategy for economic diversification."
Cervantes added that Cancun FC is committed to promoting sports tourism both nationally and internationally. He noted that of all tourists visiting the state, 36% come from eight US states, and another 36% are Mexican nationals from the other 31 states.
Mauricio Lorca, the commercial director of Cancun FC, said that the club's project of promoting Mexico through football aligns perfectly with the goals of the Businessmen for Quintana Roo. He also mentioned the potential to attract local audiences and boost tourism.
"We are forming this alliance at the perfect time to advance our projects," said Lorca. "This partnership provides a platform for us to promote business among ourselves and the people of Quintana Roo. Strategies like this are key to strengthening our credentials with the Federation."
