Governor Lezama Leads Emergency Meeting on Hurricane “Beryl” – Click Here for Updates!

In response to the impending Hurricane "Beryl", an emergency meeting was held by the State Civil Protection Council, led by Cancun Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. Also present was the national coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez Alzúa. The meeting focused on tracking the hurricane and planning preventive actions to minimize its impact on the Cancun population.

The council discussed various measures that have been implemented and planned to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and tourists in Quintana Roo. Governor Lezama urged the public to prioritize prevention and take all necessary precautions. She emphasized the collaborative efforts of various entities, including the Navy, the Army, the National Guard, federal agencies such as CONAGUA, CFE, SICT, Civil Protection, municipal governments, and the state cabinet, all working together to protect lives.

Vice Admiral Abraham Eloy Caballero Rosas, commander of the 9th Naval Region, outlined the specifics of Plan Marina. This includes the deployment of over 1,100 personnel across various locations, with 100 in Isla Mujeres, 133 in Puerto Juárez and Cancun, 349 in Cozumel, and 546 in Chetumal. Additionally, 87 vehicles and 5 mobile medical brigades are on standby to assist the population. Support will also be provided from Mexico City, including a civil protection unit, water purification plants, and a mobile communication center. The Vice Admiral advised smaller boats to dock and urged service providers to ensure their sailors are not on their boats.

National Civil Protection Coordinator, Laura Velázquez, announced that the Command Center will be set up at the Naval Station of Playa Linda and the Naval Air Base of Chetumal. She confirmed that they have the full support of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is closely monitoring the situation in Quintana Roo. All necessary precautions have been taken, including securing provisions and fuels.

Governor Lezama and Coordinator Velázquez emphasized the importance of following information from official sources and taking all preventive measures. They reassured that the government is working collectively to ensure the protection and safety of the public.
