Sheinbaum’s Win Could Mean Cancun Grand Prix Success

Antonio Pérez Garibay, the father of Checo Pérez, has been leading the charge for a Cancun Grand Prix for several years. While the project is still in progress, its success hinges on the outcome of the presidential election on June 2.

Garibay has expressed his hope that Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum will be the next president. He believes that if Sheinbaum prevails over opponents Xóchitl Gálvez and Jorge Álvarez Máynez, Mexico will host two Formula One Grand Prix events.

"We are waiting for the elections and, if Sheinbaum becomes president, we can expect the Cancun Grand Prix to take place from 2025 to 2030," Garibay said.

Despite recent comments from Bernardo Cueto, the Tourism Secretary of Quintana Roo, that there have been no formal discussions about the project or the construction of the racetrack, Garibay remains confident that the Cancun Grand Prix will become a reality in the coming years.

Garibay also emphasized the importance of Sheinbaum's experience in the potential success of the Cancun Grand Prix. Sheinbaum has firsthand experience meeting Formula One standards, as she was deeply involved in the organization of the Mexico Grand Prix during her tenure as Head of Government in Mexico City.

"Claudia knows how to organize a Formula One event in Mexico without relying on federal, state, and municipal government funds," Garibay noted.
