In a violent incident, two armed robbers stole approximately 10 million pesos from a home in Cancún's South Polygon area. The stolen money was earmarked for the payment of construction site workers.
The emergency services received a report of the robbery at 18:36 hours on Thursday. This prompted the Municipal Police to respond to the scene at supermanzana 326, manzana 8, lot 14, in the Jardines del Sur I neighborhood.
According to the report, two armed men entered house 21 of the Privada Magnolia. They threatened the homeowner before making off with the cash, which was intended for the payment of construction site workers.
In response to the robbery, a red code was activated. This involved personnel from various police departments across three levels of government. The suspects reportedly fled in a white Peugeot van.
Security cameras tracked the van to avenue 135 in Cancún. The two men, seen carrying a suitcase and firearms, abandoned the van and fled in a different vehicle. The second vehicle was identified as a Dodge Ram with Quintana Roo state plates SZ8576.
Inside the abandoned van, police officers discovered what appeared to be remnants of the stolen money: a bag filled with coins and a few bills. An empty handbag was also found outside the van.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing two individuals abandon the van, carrying a supermarket bag. The police have since located the van and have launched a search operation for the suspects.
The van has been secured for further investigation by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE).
