Cancún hotels and other establishments across the Mexican Caribbean are making a shift towards renewable energy. This move aims to cut down on the high costs of energy consumption and safeguard against the country's unreliable electricity supply. The Golden Parnassus Hotel is leading the charge as one of the first in Cancún to utilize a Tesla battery and a comprehensive solar energy system.

The hotel's renewable energy system, showcased at the Cancún Hotel Association, includes solar panels installed on its roofs. These can be activated during peak hours, leading to significant cost and energy savings. Hotel directors Manuel Ricardez and Andrés Muñoz shared that this advanced technology allows for a minimum of 35% reduction in energy consumption, ensuring the hotel's operations are sustainable.

SolarFuel, the company behind this solution, is already operating similar systems in several Mexican Caribbean hotels. The installation at the Golden Parnassus Hotel marks a significant milestone for the company in Cancún. The system comprises 550 solar panels, a Tesla battery, and heat pumps that enable clean energy activation, reducing the traditionally high electricity costs in Cancún's hotel zone.

Currently, only 5% of hotel rooms in the Mexican Caribbean use renewable energy, with the majority relying on the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). However, interest in sustainable technology is growing due to its potential to reduce environmental impact and cut costs.

The Quintana Roo legislature's environmental and climate change commission is considering a bill to impose stricter penalties on real estate developers and hotel owners who harm the environment. This bill was proposed by MP Andrea González, signaling a growing emphasis on environmental responsibility in the region.
