“Hotels in Cancun Filling Up Fast: Anticipate Last-Minute Deals!”

Jesús Almaguer Salazar, the president of the Association of Hotels in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, has reported that hotels in northern Quintana Roo are currently at 60% capacity due to reservations. He anticipates an increase in last-minute bookings as well.

Almaguer explains that it's now common for at least 50% of bookings to be made with less lead time, often resulting in last-minute reservations. This trend suggests a promising pace as the peak season approaches.

In addition, some hotels are already fully booked. The Ministry of Tourism is expecting at least one million visitors during the upcoming season. On average, tourists visiting Quintana Roo spend around USD 1,000 per person. Approximately 26% of this amount is typically used for travel to nearby cities.

In recent data released by the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur), Cancun and Los Cabos were the top two destinations with the highest hotel occupancy rates among the 12 tourist hotspots in Mexico. This data was collected by the Tourism Information System Datatur during the first quarter of 2024.
