Cancún Crackdown on Event Scams Sparks Buzz

Members of a council raising their hands to vote during a session with signage indicating a constitutional meeting of Benito Juarez, Quintana Roo 2021-2024 in Cancun.

In a recent meeting, Cancún officials unanimously agreed to regulate public shows and entertainment. The changes to the existing regulations aim to protect citizens from purchasing tickets to events that may not have the necessary permits from the City Council.

Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, Acting Head of the municipal presidency of Benito Juárez, elaborated on the decision. "There have been instances where an event is advertised, but the promoter cancels it. This leaves ticket holders struggling to get refunds," he explained. The new regulations ensure that when an event is advertised, it already has the necessary permits.

In the past, promoters would often wait until the last minute to secure these permits. Gutiérrez Fernández urged event organizers to adhere to the new regulations, promising that the city would streamline the permit process. "We welcome event promoters to Cancún. Our role is to ensure the safety of event attendees," he said.
