Cancún authorities have announced a temporary ban on the sale of alcohol in public spaces during the upcoming Cry of Independence celebrations. This "dry law" is aimed at ensuring safety and tranquility during the festivities.

The restrictions will be in place on Sunday, September 15, from 5 pm to 11 pm. This will primarily impact bars and restaurants in the busiest areas of the city during this holiday period.

Gustavo Fernández Hernández, the director of Municipal Fiscalization, stated that the goal of the ban is to prevent public consumption of alcohol and potential disturbances. The focus of the restriction will be on the sale of alcohol for takeaway or for consumption outside of establishments.

Restaurants will still be permitted to serve alcohol to their patrons inside their premises, but will not be allowed to sell it for consumption elsewhere.

Fernández Hernández noted that approximately 60 businesses located near the Municipal Palace, including those on Tulum and Nader avenues, have been notified to comply with this regulation.
