A taxi driver from the Villas Otoch neighborhood in Cancún has been accused of severe animal abuse, allegedly attacking his pet with a hammer. The incident was first reported on the Facebook group, Animal Rescue Cancún.
A group member posted videos and photos as evidence of the alleged abuse. The user recounted hearing screams and witnessing the neighbor assaulting his pet with a hammer. The post detailed the horrific scene: "The man had a hammer in his hand and was striking the pet. I yelled at him to stop, but he managed to hit it on the head before leaving the property, leaving the pet injured and bleeding.”
Following the post, fellow group members took swift action, reporting the incident to local authorities. Animal Welfare staff responded to the situation around 6 pm on the same day. They arrived at the Villas Otoch location on 2nd Street, Manzano private, where they rescued the injured pet along with two other Chihuahuas present at the house.
The shared images of the incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with users demanding justice for the animals and punishment for the perpetrator. It is currently unknown what consequences the accused, a member of the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' Taxi Drivers Union, will face.
