A Cancún taxi driver has been arrested after being found in possession of drugs. This arrest is linked to a previous incident where the driver, associated with the "Andrés Quintana Roo" taxi union, allegedly obstructed an Uber driver from picking up tourists in Cancún's Hotel Zone.
The driver, known as Carlos Jesús "N", was reportedly arrested due to his suspected involvement in drug dealing, which is considered a crime against health. State Prosecutor's Office personnel apprehended him with multiple doses of a dry green herb, identified as marijuana.
Carlos Jesús "N" is also suspected of being involved in an incident where members of the "Andrés Quintana Roo" taxi union allegedly prevented a digital transport platform vehicle, such as Uber, from picking up passengers on Kukulcán Boulevard, situated in the Hotel Zone.
Following his arrest in the Supermanzana 227 area of the Benito Juárez municipality, Carlos Jesús "N" was handed over to the relevant authorities. His legal status will be determined within the constitutionally stipulated timeframe.
Authorities are calling on public transport operators to behave responsibly, respect the rights of users to choose their preferred mode of transport, and to refrain from aggressive actions towards other drivers and tourists.
