A taxi union leader in Cancún was tragically killed after allegedly being kidnapped in the city's hotel district. The Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office (FGE) suggests that the incident may be linked to health-related offences.
The FGE released a statement indicating that their preliminary investigations into the murder point towards this possibility. They have launched an investigation to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Various news sources have identified the victim as a coordinator of the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi union. Reports indicate that he was abducted the previous night from the Kukulcán boulevard's club area by armed men who forced him into a van. The victim, 40-year-old Martín Antonio, was reportedly taken to the "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" General Hospital in a taxi by a friend and his wife.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Martín was found to have sustained multiple injuries. Shortly afterwards, doctors declared him deceased. A van from the Forensic Services of the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office arrived soon after to transport the body to the Forensic Medical Service.
The Attorney General's Office has reported that they are working in coordination with security authorities at all three levels of government to find and apprehend those responsible for this tragic incident.
