Cancún’s 55th Anniversary Extravaganza: Week-Long Party! April 7-13

Cancún, a globally renowned destination, is gearing up to celebrate its 55th anniversary. This Mexican paradise, known for its stunning beaches, historical ruins, vibrant nightlife, and ecotourism, will host a week-long celebration starting Monday, April 7, and concluding on Sunday, April 13. The municipality of Benito Juárez has announced a range of activities aimed at attracting both local residents of Quintana Roo and tourists from around the world.

The week's festivities kick off with the presentation of the ZOFU Revitalization Strategy at the Mex Cancún SM Hotel from 4 to 5 pm on Monday, April 7. The Cancún World Fest will take place on the Tajamar Promenade from 5 to 11 pm, April 11 to 13. On the final day, the Cancunense Walk will start on Bonampak Avenue at 7:00 am.

Cancún was officially founded on April 20, 1970. Prior to becoming a city, Cancún was a sparsely populated area with a few Mayan communities and fishing activities. The Mexican government, in partnership with the government of Quintana Roo, transformed this small coastal area into an international tourist hub by investing heavily in infrastructure, including roads, an international airport, and hotel developments.

In a short span of time, Cancún emerged as a leading tourist destination, not just in Mexico, but globally.
