Cancún is witnessing a significant transformation with a historic investment aimed at enhancing its urban infrastructure. The city's Municipal President, Ana Paty Peralta, has led this initiative. She revealed that over 430,000 square meters of streets have been paved with asphalt, hydraulic, and recycled concrete during her tenure.

This initiative is part of the Municipal Development Plan (PMD) 2021-2024's Axis 3: Sustainable Environment. The goal is to preserve Cancún's unique natural beauty through organized, sustainable growth and shared responsibility. As part of this, public works have paved 308,700 square meters of roads with asphalt concrete and over 15,000 square meters with hydraulic concrete.

Additionally, the city has constructed over 40,800 square meters of sidewalks, more than 30,900 linear meters of curbs, over 21,000 linear meters of tactile lines, and more than 14,300 linear meters of drainage network. Other additions include over 7,600 square meters of walkways, over 6,000 linear meters of distribution, more than 5,000 square meters of bicycle lanes, and over 1,985 linear meters of sewerage systems.

To improve road and pedestrian safety, the city has installed 63,000 linear meters of horizontal signage, over 1,445 pieces of vertical signage, and 935 road lights. Furthermore, the city has recycled asphalt pavement on Puerto Juárez, Nichupté, and Cancún avenues using a machine known as the "Dragon", covering a total of 110,209 square meters of avenues.

Peralta also emphasized the city's efforts to combat violence and crime under Axis 4: Cancún for Peace of the PMD 2021-2024. As part of this, the administration has modernized the traffic light network to improve pedestrian and driver safety, implementing safe crossings with universal accessibility. This was done in two stages during 2023 and 2024, with the installation of 494 vehicle traffic lights and 236 pedestrian traffic lights, along with equipment and software for the control center.

These measures are positioning Cancún as a leader in road and pedestrian safety, demonstrating a commitment to shared prosperity.
